The world story of a fascinating gemstone is told in Turquoise. Authors Joe Dan Lowry and Joe P. Lowry unearth the mystery and allure of one of the most unique gems on earth.

For thousands of years, turquoise’s appearance has been described as robin’s egg blue, Persian blue, spiderweb and picture rock. However, the authors of Turquoise have an affinity far greater for the gem that goes beyond conventional description. Their expertise is on full display to the turquoise enthusiast and newcomers to the gem, alike.

Enchanting and informative chapters covering the mystical qualities, international history, mining, and caring techniques of turquoise can bring one’s knowledge of the stone from amateur to expert. The latest in science and art from the greatest collections around the globe, Turquoise is lushly illustrated to show the beauty and intricacies of a gem beloved by a variety of cultures. Created with a vast variety of techniques, turquoise is displayed here in every imaginable way, from ancient statues to modern pistol-handles and jewelry. Readers are also treated to a look into the mining and cutting of the stone, in a process taken all the way to the finished product.

Joe Dan Lowry is world-renowned for his knowledge about turquoise and is sought after for appraisals, interviews, and lectures. He owns one turquoise mine, is a skilled lapidary, and is co-author of the book Turquoise Unearthed. He developed and is curator of the Turquoise Museum in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he lives.

Joe P. Lowry has been the president of Zach-Low since 1973 and is the founder and president of The Turquoise Museum since 1993. He has been involved in bringing education to the turquoise and Indian jewelry industry at museums and national parks around the country. He co-authored Turquoise Unearthed with his son, Joe Dan Lowry.
